Biography
He graduated from the gymnasium in Sambir and the engineering department of the Higher Polytechnic School (VPSh) in Lviv ( 1880 - 1885 ). Nephew and student of Professor Dominic Zbrozhek (* 1832 - † 1889 ). In the years 1885-1887. - Assistant of the Department of Geodesy and Spherical Astronomy of the Higher School of Economics As an assistant received a scholarship to them. Franz Joseph I to improve knowledge abroad. Then he studied at Vienna and Berlin universities, at polytechnics in Charlottenburg (now part of Berlin ) and Hanover , at the same time he worked at the German Naval Astronomical Observatory in Hamburg , the world's first Astrophysical Institute in Potsdam ( Germany ), at the Central Meteorological Bureau of France, fr. Le Bureau central météorologique de France (now Meteo-France ) and the National School of Bridges and Roads in Paris ( France ).
After returning from 1888, he was an assistant at the Department of Geodesy and Spherical Astronomy at the Higher School of Economics. At the same time, professor at the State Industrial School ( 1889 - 1894 ), deputy professor at the Department of Geodesy and Spherical Astronomy at the Higher School of Economics (1891-1893) and associate professor at the Regional School of Forestry ( 1893 - 1903 ) in Lviv. Since 1893 - Head of the Department of Geodesy and Spherical Astronomy ( December 28, 1894 - Department of Geodesy) of the Higher School of Economics in Lviv. He was elected dean (1898/99 - 1900/01 academic year) and prodekan (1901/02 - 1902/03 academic year) of the faculty of road construction, prodekan of the faculty of engineering of tracks, tracks and bridges (1908/09 - 1911/12 school. years), rector (1905/06 academic year) and vice-rector (1906/07 academic year). He sought to ensure that the two-year courses of geometers opened in 1896 became three-year-olds and developed a training program for this, as well as that the Museum became an institute of geodesy.
He was an excellent lecturer, so his lectures were very popular among students and contributed to the popularization of surveying and cadastre among the public. Among his students are well-known Lviv professors - surveyors Caspar Weigel (* 1880 - † 1941 ) and Vladislav Voitan (* 1876 - † 1936 ) and engineer - surveyor, general of the armor of the Polish Army and politician Vladislav Sikorsky (* 1822 - † 1943 ).
He participated in the creation of the first leveling network of Lviv ( 1880 - 1888 ) under the guidance of prof. Dominika Zbrozheka , subsequently supervised the work on topographic survey of the cities of Ternopil and Drohobych and the creation of leveling networks in the cities of Sambir and Przemysl .
Author and co-author of scientific works and textbooks on geodesy, cadastre , meteorology and astronomy in German and Polish. Some remained only in the manuscript.
Member of the Polytechnic Society in Lviv ( 1886 ), the Galician Engineering Chamber, the Commission for Weights and Measures in Vienna, the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Construction Bank and the member of the Supervisory Board of the Zalichkova Bank in Lviv and the like.
He died on March 14, 1912 in Davos ( Switzerland ). He was buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv (field 1a).
