Dominik Zbrožek ( Polish: Dominik Zbrožek ; August 1, 1832 ; Sambir - July 1, 1889 , ibid.) Is an outstanding Polish astronomer , surveyor , meteorologist , teacher , organizer of science and education, a member of the Krakow Academy of Sciences and Crafts and regional politician. The first head of the oldest department in Poland of geodesy and spherical astronomy, the founder and first head of the astronomical observatory in Galicia. Czech-Polish gentry coat of arms Porai.

To his merits, one can also record the fact that he was one of the first in Lviv to start scientific research in the field of geodesy. Among his students were prominent scientists and engineers : professors of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow Mauricius Pius Rudzky and August Victor Vitkovsky , professor of the Higher Polytechnic School (VPS) in Lvov Placid Zdzislaw Dzivinsky, Severin Widt , Roman Dzeslevsky and Dr. Jan Emil Blautrova, engineers Kazimierz Skimezha, Kazimezh Marcin Oiler and others [1] .
