The main works of Shishkovsky concern the field of colloid chemistry and the theory of solutions . He experimentally established (1908) the relationship between surface tension and the concentration of aqueous solutions of surfactants . This dependence is expressed by an equation bearing the name of Shishkovsky.
Shishkovsky equation
The Shishkovsky equation establishing the dependence of the surface tension of a solution on its concentration:
- σ 0 - σ = A · ln (1 + Kc)
- where A is a constant for the entire homologous series , which does not depend on the nature of surface-active substances (PAR); at a temperature of 20 ° C, A≈0.2; K is a constant characterizing an increase in surface activity during the transition to each next member of the homologous series K n + 1 / K n = 3 ÷ 3,5.
It is noteworthy that this equation, obtained on the basis of a generalization of experimental data, turned out to be very accurate and applicable to almost all surfactants in a wide range of solution concentrations.
