Gomel Regional Council of Deputies ( Belorussian. Gomelsky Ablasny Savet Deputataў ), abbreviated Gomel Regional Council ( Belorussian. Gomelsky Ablasyvet ) is the legislative representative body of local self-government in the territory of the Gomel Region . The composition of the deputy corps includes 60 deputies elected by the majority system . The term of office of the Gomel Regional Council of Deputies is 4 years.

Content
History
In Gomel, at the Rumyantsev-Paskevich palace, a memorial plaque was kept informing that the Council of Workers 'and Soldiers' Deputies met in it, which proclaimed the victory of Soviet power in the city in November 1917 [2] .
In October 1916, spontaneous anti-war unrest of soldiers, Cossacks and sailors occurred in the barracks of the Gomel transit point (the current Trud factory on Vosstaniya Square). The excitement was caused by the assault of an officer who hit a Don Cossack who escaped from German captivity [2] .
In September 1917, a crowd of demoralized soldiers almost defeated the Gomel Council, which was sitting in the Paskevich palace. The Mensheviks , who advocated the war “to the bitter end”, were forced to flee through the back door. Among them was Peter Bogdanov, future chairman of the Council of National Economy of the RSFSR [2] .
International cooperation
The Gomel Regional Council of Deputies has a number of agreements with other legislative or representative authorities of Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia, Russia, Italy, the Czech Republic, Armenia, China and others [3] [4] .
Regional Council Powers
In accordance with Article 121 of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus :
- approval of programs of economic and social development, the budget of the Gomel region and reports on their implementation;
- the establishment of local taxes and fees;
- determination of the management and disposal of communal property;
- the appointment of local referenda;
- approves the candidacy of the chairman of the Gomel regional executive committee appointed by the President of the Republic of Belarus ;
- elects 8 members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus from the Gomel region.
Composition
The elections to the 27th convocation of the Council were held on March 23, 2014 , at which 60 deputies were elected. Only one political party - the PBC , is represented in the regional council. All other members are non-partisan [5] .
Following the results of the elections of deputies of local Councils of Deputies on February 18, 2018, the number of voters in the Gomel region amounted to 1,097,164. 885,950 voters, or 80.75% of the total number of voters included in the lists, participated in the vote [6] . 7 members of political parties went to the regional council, among them: 3 - members of the Communist Party, 2 - members of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice and 2 - members of the Social Democratic Party of People’s Concord [7] .
