Burley hans

Born in the family of a poor tenant, in a small forest farm. The poet’s childhood passed in a poor peasant family, where they knew how to work and appreciated the fruits of human labor, where they knew how to enjoy every day of life. And poverty was not an obstacle to joy, it could not limit the flight of the imagination of the future poet - he always felt like a resident of the infinite Universe.

From the age of 12 he began to work as a lumberjack, helping his father and older brothers. All his free time he worked in the forest on a par with adult lumberjacks, lived with them in a hut, where in the evenings by the light of a kerosene lamp he wrote his school essays. The forest became the fate of Burley - and the place where he earned his livelihood, and a source of inspiration, and the hero of poetry.

In the spring of 1938, he entered the divisional officer school in Oslo . However, shortly after the outbreak of World War II, the school was closed, and Hans went to the front. In the ranks of the Norwegian army, he took part in heavy battles with the Germans, was seriously wounded and captured. After being released from captivity, he returned to his homeland. For some time he worked as a teacher, then again as a lumberjack. Burley knew the forest so well that during the years of German occupation he performed the duties of a “border pilot” - he transported Norwegian refugees fleeing the Nazi persecution across the Swedish border.

Until 1981, H. Burley went daily to the forest with a saw and an ax, and only a serious heart attack excommunicated him from this work. In an interview, H. Burley said:

“The forest is the reality that I know. From the forest, I received everything that I needed to support life. He fed me and my work. ”

H. Burley never worked at his desk, at home he only wrote down the verses compiled by him while he was cutting trees or chopping branches, relaxing by the fire or walking through the woods.

During his life he has published 16 collections of poetry and a number of prose books.

Burley said of himself:

“Writing poetry was the only way for me to live. Poems were my form of communication with the outside world. "

And in them he told the world what was the meaning of his life.

Love and tenderness for the world make Hans Burley a universal poet, for whom there is neither space, nor time, nor nations. It is close and understandable to everyone who is trying to understand the greatness of the world and its destiny in it. He describes even social evil without hatred and malice, with calm confidence that only material things can be taken away from a person:

Just for Burley, if the divine manifests itself in something, then in the direct experience of perceiving reality and earthly things. Considering Burley’s work historically, one cannot fail to note that the poet is a kind of witness to the situation that Nietzsche called the death of God. ”
