History
The island is of artificial origin. In the middle of the XIX century, the territory of the future island was a section of the left bank floodplain. There was a chain of lakes in place of the Rusanovskaya channel.
In 1877, as a result of a strong flood on the Dnieper, a modern strait formed at the place of the chain of lakes, and therefore a new island was formed.
However, already during 1882–1884, dams on the Rusanovskaya and Venetian channels were built, and the island again became part of the mainland. After these works, the current Venetian island was connected by a dam with the current Dolobetsky island.
In the 1st half of the 20th century As a result of floods and the destruction of dams, an island has re-formed.
Starting from the 18th century, people began to settle here, and with the construction of the chain bridge in 1853, the bridgehead was named.
At the end of the 19th century, the Venice recreation park was opened on the island with a restaurant, stage, theater and other institutions. Later, "Venice" was renamed "Petrovsky Park", but the second name did not stick for a long time [1] .
In 1906, the Rusanovsky Bridge was laid to the island, and in 1915 - the new Navodnitsky Bridge . Both bridges were destroyed during World War II .
During World War II, namely during the retreat of the German invaders from Kiev in October 1943, the settlement was completely burned.
After the war, it was decided not to restore the village, and already in the 1960s, after the opening of the metro station on the island in 1965, a recreation area was equipped with beaches and sports grounds - the Kiev hydropark .
The frequent change of the characters of the straits and the fact that at different times the Venetian island was an island, then part of the mainland, today resemble several lakes on the island.
