The highway Kandahar - Herat is 557 kilometers (346 miles); This route connects Kandahar and Herat . The highway is part of a large road network built with the assistance of the USSR in the 1960s. [one]
History
In October 2004, reconstruction of the highway began, the completion of which was expected by the end of 2006. The United States finances 326 kilometers of road section, Saudi Arabia finances a 115 km section and Japan is involved in the restoration of 116 km. [2] Reconstruction of the highway reduced travel time between these two major cities from 10 hours to 4.3 hours. [3]
