The Simple Way (literally, the Simple Way) is a new- ideological community in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , USA [1] . It was founded in January 1998 by Shane Klayborn and five other graduates of Eastern University ( Eng. Eastern University ), who settled in a residential block in Kensington ( Eng. Kensington ) [2] [3] . They deliberately chose the poorest district of the city, where there were no local churches [4] . The community did not receive financial support from missionary agencies [5] . The Simple Way participants planted a garden, opened their store, fed the starving [6] . When it was forbidden to distribute food on the streets of the city, they managed to circumvent this ban by distributing consecrated products during the Eucharist , which in this case were not legally considered food products [7] .
Songwriter Dar Williams joined the community in 1999 and held a charity concert in in support of the community [8] .
Toby Jones, in his book, The Way of Jesus: Re-Forming Spiritual Communities in a Post-Church Age, wrote in The Simple Way that “The Way of Jesus: Reforms Spiritual Communities in the Post-Church Age ”a genuine, albeit human, view of how one should live in the way of Jesus ” [9] . And John Avant in the book “ If God Were Real: A Journey into a Faith That Matters ” called this community “ a rather inconceivable group ” [10] .
