The parliament of the free city of Bremen ( German: Bremische Bürgerschaft ) is the legislative body of the Free Hanseatic city of Bremen in Germany . The State Parliament elects members of the Senate (executive branch), oversees the executive branch and passes laws. Currently, it consists of 83 members from representatives of 5 political parties. The current coalition majority is the coalition of the Social Democratic Party and the Union of 90 / Greens , supporting the mayor and Senate President Carsten Seeling. Bremen delegates also form the City Chamber, and Bremerhaven has its own parliament.

Composition
Elections are held using the proportional representation system in both constituencies of Bremen (68 seats) and Bremerhaven (15 seats) with a percentage barrier of 5%. 68 members from Bremen also form the City Council for the city of Bremen only. This is the only German state parliament with a 4-year, rather than a 5-year term.
In 1979, the Bremen Green List ( German: Bremer Grüne Liste ) managed to get into parliament, becoming the first batch of green parties ever included in the German Landtag.
