Markin, Yury Petrovich

Born in the city of Uryupinsk, Stalingrad region , he graduated from high school in 1954. In the period 1955-1965, by his own ironic admission, he “was engaged in the construction business,” that is, he worked on construction sites in Moscow as a simple worker and at the same time studied at the Faculty of History of Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov (in 1959-1965, Department of Art History). The head of his diploma was an eminent Byzantologist Scientist VN Lazarev . In 1965-1988 he worked as a scientific editor at the publishing house "Art"; in 1988/1989 was in charge of the editorial literature on art in the book " Book ". Began to publish, as a historian of art, in the Soviet and foreign press since the late 1960s. In 1978 he defended his thesis on an already published book: “ Ernst Barlach . Plastic Works ”(M. 1976). From 1989 to the present, he has worked at the Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts of the Russian Academy of Arts in Moscow . In 1995 he defended his doctoral thesis: “German sculpture. 1900-1950. ”In 2016, Yu. P. Markin was awarded the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts for publishing a series of books on German art of the first half of the 20th century. Author of 12 monographs and about 120 articles on the history of art. Since 1978, it has also been published as a professional photographer (over two thousand of his photographs of monuments of architecture, monumental sculpture and objects of applied art are reproduced in albums and books on the visual arts).
