Zoo History
Kiev Zoo was founded in 1908. First, the zoo was located on the territory of the current Botanical Garden named after Academician A.V. Fomin. In 1913, the zoological park was transferred to a new territory (Brest-Litovsky Prospect No. 8 (now 32 Victory Avenue), where it is now. Since then, Zoological Street has appeared.
The zoo is working on the acclimatization of many animals (tropical and subtropical countries, the far North), considerable attention is paid to their reproduction, especially rare, endangered species.
The zoo employees carried out scientific work to study the living conditions of bison, kulans, Przhevalsky horses, Amur tigers, bears, etc.
More than 130 species of trees and bushes grow on the territory of the zoological park. In the early 1980s, reconstruction was carried out.
During the year, zoo experts conduct interesting scientific and educational activities.
Sightseeing and thematic tours are held on a fabulous train.
International, state, municipal, national holidays and days are celebrated dedicated to certain groups of animals - residents of the Kiev Zoo, and actions are held during school holidays.
A group of young animals is actively operating at the Kiev zoo, in which children gain knowledge on biology, systematics, zoogeography of land and aquatic animals, get acquainted with the collection of animals of the Kiev zoo, look after them, study their behavior and development cycles, the basics of environmental protection in Ukraine and its limits. Kiev Zoo is open for any sponsorship and guardianship of animals.
