Fish River

The Fish River is the longest river in Namibia. It flows intermittently, usually bottled at the end of the summer; during the rest of the year, it turns into a chain of long narrow pools. On the lower reaches of the river are hot springs Ai-Ice.

Tourist places are located near the Khobas tourist center, 70 kilometers north of Ai-Ice. This part of the canyon belongs to the Richtersfeld Border Park. The remaining 90 km of the canyon are privately owned.

Fish River Canyon consists of the upper canyon, where river erosion was stopped by hard layers of gneiss , and the lower canyon formed after gneiss erosion.

Upstream, the river passes through horizontal dolomite layers; these metamorphic rocks form part of a canyon. About 650 million years ago, a plate movement formed a graben , along which an ancient river flowed. Icing 300 million liters. n., part of the Duke glaciation in the Caru Ice Age, deepened the canyon. About 60 million liters. n., due to continental drift , there was a split in Gondwana , and Africa grew significantly; this time corresponds to the blurring of the lower canyon at the sites of gneiss, which form the winding canyon system.
