Club career

Jop Vigel started playing football in the Amstel team, where his brothers also played. He was one of the five Vigel brothers of football players [2] - the older brothers Frederick, Willem and Christian played for Amstel in the 1910s, while Jop and his younger brother Bernard began their performances in the 1920s. Yop acted as a defender, and Bernard was a striker. In July 1926, the brothers were called up to the Amsterdam team, whose captain Wim Anderisen was elected [3] .

In the summer of 1926 he moved to another Amsterdam club - Ajax . His debut took place on March 13, 1927 in a friendly match with the English club Woking , the meeting ended with the victory of Ajax with a score of 5: 2 [4] . In June 1927 he was again called up to the Amsterdam national team [5] . In the Dutch championship, the only match for the “red and white” was played on May 17, 1928 [6] , leaving in the starting lineup against Velositas instead of Dolph van Kol - the meeting between the teams ended in a victory for the Amsterdam team with a score of 1: 4 [7] .

In the summer of 1928 he became a player of the Stormvogels club from Eimeiden - at the beginning of the season he took part in friendly matches against KFK [8] and Eindhoven [9] . Yop was supposed to play the first game in the championship on September 9 [10] , but in the end he was replaced by Snooks in the starting lineup [11] . The debut took place only on September 23 in the third round against Hermes , which ended in the defeat of his team with a score of 4: 6 [12] . Haarlems Dagblad negatively assessed Vigel, noting that he had weakened Stormvogels' defense [12] . Already in the next round, Vöger took his place in defense [13] .

Personal life

Jop was born in October 1902 in Amsterdam [1] . Father - Anton Frederic Vigel, was born in Amsterdam, mother - Hendrika Maria Bitter, was born in Apeldoorn . He was the ninth child out of thirteen Vigel children [14] .

Their marriage was registered on February 22, 1934 in Amsterdam [1] . In August 1935, their son Willem Peter was born in their family, and in July 1938 the daughter of Adrian Anthony [1] .
