Nikolai Mikhailovich Budarin (born April 29, 1953 , Kirya , Alatyr District , Chuvash Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic ) - 82nd cosmonaut of Russia , 326th cosmonaut of the world, test cosmonaut of the cosmonaut RSC Energia, Hero of the Russian Federation. Made 3 flights into space. Member of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the fifth convocation since December 2007, member of the United Russia faction.

He graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute in 1979.

First Flight

From June 27 to September 11, 1995 as a flight engineer along with Anatoly Solovyov . The crew was delivered to the station on the American shuttle Atlantis STS-71 . Landing on the Soyuz TM-21 spacecraft made with Anatoly Solovyov. The flight duration was 75 days 11 hours 20 minutes 21 seconds.

Second Flight

From January 29 to August 25, 1998 as a flight engineer of Soyuz TM-27 . Started with Talgat Musabaev and Leopold Eyarts . He landed with Talgat Musabaev and Yuri Baturin . The flight duration was 207 days 12 hours 51 minutes 02 seconds.

Third Flight

From November 24, 2002 to May 4, 2003 as an ISS-6 flight engineer. Launch on the shuttle Endeavor STS-113 as a flight specialist, landing on the Soyuz TMA-1 transport ship as a ship commander (ballistic descent). The total flight duration was 161 days 1 hour 14 minutes 38 seconds.

Nikolai Budarin, as a native of Chuvashia, is dedicated to part of the exposition of the Museum of Cosmonautics A. G. Nikolaev in the Chuvash village of Shorshely [2] .

Political Activities

Member of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the fifth convocation since December 2007, member of the United Russia faction. From the list of candidates for deputies of the State Duma of the sixth convocation in 2011, Budarin was deleted on the initiative of the head of Chuvashia, Mikhail Ignatiev , which caused an ambiguous reaction from the public of the republic, as well as in the space community [3] .
