Biography
He studied at the Faculty of History and Geography of Charles University in Prague. Student of Yaroslav Goll . In 1901 he became a doctor of philosophy. Later, the teacher in schools and gymnasiums is the city of Louny , Hradec Králové , Pardubice and Prague. Later he worked as a private assistant professor of Czech history at Charles University.
In August 1920, he was appointed an ordinary professor of history. In August 1920, he was appointed an ordinary professor of history at the newly established Masaryk University in Brno. Since 1934 - full member of the Czech Academy of Arts and Sciences .
He was a member of the Royal Czech Society for Education, as well as a member and then chairman of the Jan Hus Museum Society.
After the end of the Second World War, he was elected a full member of the Royal Czech Scientific Society, in 1946-1952 he was its chairman.
Since November 1952 - Full Member, Academician of the newly created Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.
In 1953 he became a doctor of historical sciences.
Scientific Activities
In his historical studies he studied medieval Czech history. The main historical work of R. Urbanek is the fundamental four-volume work “Věk poděbradský”, containing a detailed account of Czech history in the years 1437-1464.
Founder of the study of the Hussite movement in Moravia .
