Ibrahim Borisovich Kanapatsky ( February 28, 1949 , Smilovichi - September 9, 2005 ) - a Belarusian social, political, cultural and religious figure, historian, one of the leaders of the Tatar diaspora of Belarus.

Family

It comes from the noble family of Belarusian Tatars. The son of Boris Ibragimovich Kanapatsky and Sofia Mustafovna, grandson of Ibragim Khasenevich Kanapatsky, imam of the Smilovichi mosque. In addition to him, the family had three more children: daughters Rosalia and Tonsila and the son of Mustafa.

In 1975 , he married Anna Kokhno, in 1976 they had a son, Zakhar, and in 1978 , their daughter Zorin.

Academic Activities and Teacher Careers

In 1966 he entered the history department of the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute named after M. Gorky . After he worked at the Kamennoborsk school of the Berezinsky district of the Minsk region . Since 1972 , member of the CPSU. Since 1978 , candidate of historical sciences (dissertation "The activities of the Communist Party of Belarus to provide fraternal assistance to the working people of Kazakhstan in the development of virgin and dependent lands (1954-1960) and an assistant to the Department of History of the Communist Party of the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute (later the Department of History of Bulls, Faculty of History, BSPU). Taught history of Belarus and a special course on the national-cultural diversity of the population of the Republic.

Cultural and religious activities within the Tatar diaspora of Belarus

In the 1990s, he was at the origins of the creation of the Belarussian Association of Tatars-Muslims Al-Kitab (“Book”; since 2000 - the Belarusian public association of Tatars “Zikr ul-Kitab” (“Memory and Book”). He was the chief editor of the magazines Bayram ( 1999 ; the magazine is published in Russian ), Al-Islam , the newspapers Life and Tatar Life . Since 1996 . under his editorship, the Calendar of Tatar Muslims of Belarus is published. In 1993, he contributed to the reprinting of the book by A. Mukhlinsky “Research on the origin and condition of the Lithuanian Tatars” (Research on the origin and condition of the Lithuanian Tatars, St. Petersburg in 1857 ), in 1997 he was one of the authors of the catalog “Manuscripts and printed books of Belarusian Tatars” "

He actively contributed to the restoration of mosques in Slonim ( 1997 ), Smilovichi ( 1997 ), Novogrudok ( 1997 ), Vidzah ( 1999 ), Kletsk ( 2000 ), Molodechno ( 2000 ), Lovchitsy ( 2002) g.) and made efforts to restore the cathedral mosque in Minsk [1] . In 1995 , he helped in the creation of the Tatar cultural center in Ivye .

Being one of the leaders of Belarusian Muslims, I. Kanapatsky held rather tolerant views on other religions and was an active supporter of the Belarusian national-cultural revival. In everyday life, he often spoke Belarusian [2] .

International activities

In 1999 . As part of the delegation of Belarusian Tatars, he met with the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, in April 2000 , with representatives of the Commission for the Development of National Minority Activities of the US Congress . As the International Ambassador of Peace, he visited Libya in 1999 , Chad in 2000 , Iraq in 2001 , and Jerusalem in 2004 . In 1993 , he was a delegate to the First Congress of the Union of Belarusians of the World "Fatherland" , he was invited as a guest to all subsequent congresses.
