White in Namibia ( English White Namibians ) - one of the largest racial and cultural-linguistic minorities in Namibia , people of European descent. The linguistic , cultural and historical aspects are divided into descendants of the Dutch , German , English and Portuguese colonists as well as a number of smaller groups ( Jews , French , immigrants from other European countries). According to estimates for 2011, the white population of Namibia is between 75,000 and 120,000 people, which is 4-7% of the total population of the country [1] [2] .

History
Europeans arrived in these arid lands relatively late - it was not until 1878 that Great Britain annexed Walvis Bay to the Cape Colony . In 1883, a German merchant, Adolf Luderitz, bought a piece of the coast in the area of Angra-Peken Bay from one of the local leaders of the Nama tribe - for 200 rifles and goods worth 100 pounds . Under the Anglo-German Treaty of 1890, the entire coast of modern Namibia, excluding Walvis Bay, was transferred to the German Empire . Thus, the boundaries of the colony German South-West Africa were determined. German authorities encouraged the arrival of white colonists who occupied the lands of the local population [3] . Germans and Jews began to arrive in the colony, the number of Jews, however, according to the laws of Germany of that time should not exceed 100 people [4] . In 1915, during the First World War , troops of the Union of South Africa captured Namibia. On December 17, 1920, the Union of South Africa assumed control of South West Africa. After that, the number of Jews in Namibia began to increase sharply. In addition, some Boers , followers of the Dorsland Track , began to relocate to Namibia after the end of World War I. Most Portuguese born in Angola settled after Angola became independent in 1975 . After Namibia became an independent country on March 21, 1990, the white population declined sharply.
Abundance and resettlement
The vast majority of white Namibians live in large cities and towns in central or southern Namibia. Windhoek has the largest number of whites in Namibia. Also, whites make up the majority of the population in the coastal city of Swakopmund . Other coastal cities, such as Walvis Bay and Luderitz , also have large white communities [1] . By origin, white Namibians are divided into descendants of the Boers (60%), Germans (32%), British (7%), Portuguese (1%), as well as a small number of Jews and immigrants from other European countries. Whites in Namibia own 50% of arable land [5] [6] . The main language of whites is English , but German and Afrikaans are also often used [7] .
