General information
In 1986-1989 studied at Moscow secondary school No. 57 [4] . In 1995, he graduated from the Faculty of General and Applied Physics at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology , almost immediately defended his thesis on “Topological Theories and Zonal Spherical Functions” (supervisor LB Okun ) and became a research fellow at the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics (ITEP). In parallel, in 1994-1996. studied at the graduate school of the Faculty of Physics at Princeton University [1] , where he received a PhD in Physics for the dissertation “Four-Dimensional Holomorphic Theories” (supervisor David Gross ). From 1996 to 1999, he was a scholarship holder at the Harvard Society of Fellows , then a fellow at Dicke Fellow at Princeton University. Since 2000 - professor at the Institute for Higher Scientific Research ( Institut des hautes études scientifiques , Bourg-sur-Yvette , France).
In 2007, he received an invitation to participate in the creation of the new Center for Higher Studies at Stony Brook University , sponsored by the Jim and Marilyn Simons Foundation; Since 2013, he has been working at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics constantly as a professor [5] .
Scientific activity
Nikita Nekrasov is known for his work on quantum field theory, string theory and mathematical physics . The statistical sum Nekrasov ( English Nekrasov partition function ), which he introduced in his article in 2003 [6] , relates in an interesting way the instantons in gauge theory, integrable systems, and the theory of representations of infinite-dimensional algebras. For the discovery of non-communicative instantons (together with A. S. Schwartz in 1998), non-commutative monopoles and strings (together with D. Gross) and for work (together with A. Gorsky) on the connection of many particle systems and gauge theories, Nekrasov was awarded in 2004, the prize of Jacques Erbran ( French Grand Prix Jacques Herbrand ) of the French Academy of Sciences . For his contribution to the theory of topological strings and gauge theories in the same year he was awarded the Hermann Weyl Prize ( Eng. Hermann Weyl Prize ) [5] .
In 2008, together with D. Maulik, A. Okunkov, and R. Pandharipande, he formulated a number of important hypotheses connecting the Gromov – Witten theory and the Donaldson – Thomas theory , for which all four authors were awarded the Compositio Prize in 2009 [5] . Since then, some of these hypotheses have been proven.
