Head over Heels came out after a four-year hiatus. Paula Abdul these years battled with bulimia. The album was considered the return of Abdul. But this will be the last album that Paula will release before her second break in music. “Head over Heels” demonstrated the new direction and style of Abdul's music, but the reviews were mixed. Many reviewers claimed that he was distracted from the roots of Abdul pop. Some said the album was Abdul's most creative and exciting work to date.

Commercial Information

On a commercial side, Head Over Heels performed worse than Paula Abdul 's previous sales and chart positions. On the American Billboard 200 chart , the album reached only 18th place, soon flying out of the chart. But this album managed to become her best-selling album outside the United States . After the relative failure of the album, Abdul left the music scene.

The first single from Head Over Heels - "My Love is for Real" reached only 28th place on the Billboard Hot 100 . It was the first single Abdul, which did not hit the top 20 of the American chart. However, the song topped the dance chart . The second single, “Crazy Cool”, most likely due to a poor advertising campaign and an unsuccessful video clip, reached only line 58. The third single in support of the album "Is Never Never Gonna Give You Up" could not hit the chart. It was also planned to release the song “If I Were Your Girl” as the fourth single, but plans were canceled after small sales of the album and the failure of “Ain't Never Gonna Give You Up”.
