Biography
He graduated from the music school at the Leningrad Conservatory .
He graduated from the conductor and symphony department of the Leningrad Conservatory, where he studied under Nikolai Rabinovich , studied also under the guidance of Nathan Rakhlin .
After graduating from the conservatory in 1954, he directed the Karelian State Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra .
In 1956-1964 he directed the Symphony Orchestra of the Yaroslavl Philharmonic .
In 1964, after the death of Samuel Samosud, he headed the Symphony Orchestra of the USSR Ministry of Culture , which he directed before repatriating to Israel in 1972.
He acted as a guest conductor with leading orchestras in Europe. In 1975-1986 he headed the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra , in 1982-1987 he directed the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra , in connection with which in 1987 he was promoted by the King of Sweden Charles XVI to the Commanders of the Order of the Polar Star .
The last time he conducted the Paris Orchestra in October 2002.
He died in Cologne on October 31, 2002.
