Biography
Already at the age of 15, the stories of the novice writer Kokpar and Koumiss were published in the republican media. He graduated from the Kazakh State University (1964). In 1963-1966 he was a literary employee of the Zhetysu newspaper, in 1966-1975 he was the senior editor of the Zhazushy publishing house, in 1976-1984 he was the head of the department of the Committee on printing, printing and book trade, in 1984-1990 Literary Consultant of the JV of Kazakhstan. In 1994–96 - head of the department of the Agency for Copyright and Related Rights of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 1996-2002, he was the first director of the National Currency Museum - tenge of the National Bank of Kazakhstan. Since 2002, he has been the editor-in-chief of the Madeny Mura - Cultural Heritage magazine at the Presidential Cultural Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Since 1990, in creative work. Literary activity began as a poet in 1964, he later wrote prose. Author of 11 novels, 24 novellas and more than 100 stories. The subject of the work is wide. Historical novels and novels: “Otyrar” (1965), “Farabi” (1965), “Zibek Zholy” (1973), “Eko daniye esigi” (1998). “Zaual” (1970), “Kici akysy” (1978), “Dariya” (1975), “Zholbarystyk Surley” (1984) and others are devoted to the problems of modern life. A series of artistic works about great people: “ Abai Aynas” ( 1994), “Alyptyk azabi” (1997), “Mukhtar Zholy” (1998).
The writer brought great fame in the Soviet Union to translations of his books into Russian made by Gerold Belger and Maurice Simashko - the novels The Difficult Step (1974) about the rural youth and the Silk Road (1980) about the death of Otrar during the Mongol invasion, for which the Ukrainian the publishing house awarded him the prestigious prize “For the Best Historical Romance” [1]
He is the first writer embedded in the closed archive of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan. As a result, the story “Prison” (1992) based on facts, according to court documents, was written, as well as in the footsteps of the December 1986 events - the novel “The Square” (1993). These works were no longer republished, only a few copies are kept in the collection of rare books [2] .
The works of Dukenbai Doszhan were translated into 19 languages of the peoples of the world with a circulation of 3.7 million copies. His name is entered in gold letters in the Kazakh Encyclopedia and in the USA collection "People of literature and art." A collection of his short stories “When I Was Dying” [3] (2009) was published in the Most Readable Writer series. According to the results of the electronic survey-study of the Ministry of Communications and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2010 - the most widely read writer in Kazakhstan [4] .
