Biography

Born in 1911 in Moscow .

He began riding in 1923, at the age of twelve, at the school of the OSM KS named after N. I. Podvoisky. He began to engage in equestrian sports in 1926, the first sports rank was already in 1933 [1] .

He began to work in 1930 in the Siberian-Kazakhstan expedition under the leadership of the former head of the riding school and director of the All-Union State Committee for Discrimination of the People's Commissariat of the USSR L.A. Altynov. In 1931-1933 worked in the All-Union State Nonekraberazh NKZ USSR.

In 1933, he was drafted into the Red Army in the 72nd Cavalry Regiment. There he graduated from the regimental school of primary elementary composition and was discharged in 1935. He graduated from the cavalry advanced training courses for command personnel named after S. M. Budyonny in 1936.

He worked as a coach of the equestrian school at the DSO " Spartak " (Moscow) in 1935-1937. In 1937 he joined the DSE “Pishchevik”, where he organized a new equestrian school and worked there as a trainer and head coach until 1969, with a break for the war years.

During World War II he served in the 1st Special Cavalry Regiment. Subsequently, he was appointed head of the special stables of NCOs, then adjutant to the commander of the 3rd Air Army on the Kalinin Front , and later - adjutant of the 1st Air Army, Colonel General of Aviation M. Gromov . At the end of the war he served as chief of the airfield military depot. Soon he was discharged and returned to his previous job in the KSSh DSO “Pischevik” (since 1957 - “Trud”) as a school coach [2] .

He had the rank of senior lieutenant [3] .

He performed at competitions. Champion of the USSR (1948) in the championship of a sports horse (triathlon) on a mare Vienna, silver medalist of the All-Union competitions (1938 - in the 2nd hurdle jump of 2000 meters; 1946 - in dressage ; 1947 - in show jumping ). In 1947 he was awarded the title of Master of Sports of the USSR.

The champion of Moscow in overcoming obstacles ("Higher Class", 1949, 1951) on the Myth horse, was also the winner of the Moscow championships in eventing and overcoming obstacles.

He was engaged in the preparation of multi-race horses and taught classes with training groups. In addition to coaching at Pishchevik, he also successfully prepared other teams from Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Georgia.

For a long time he was a member of the Moscow equestrian section, a member of the Moscow and All-Union Collegium of Judges, a member of the coaching council of the All-Union Equestrian Section. Honorary member of the DSO "Pischevik."

Honored Trainer of the RSFSR (1971). Judge of the republican category (1947) and the All-Union category (1981) [2] .

From 1969 to 1974, Alexander Tamanov trained 6 masters of sports of the USSR and more than 25 candidates for masters of sports and first-class students. Among his wards are Leonid Vitchak, Vladimir Demin, Alexander Safonov, Olga Tamanova (daughter of Alexander Grigoryevich), Viktor Tsutskov, Vladimir Vasiliev [4] . Many of his students were part of the USSR national team [1] [5] .

The last time he spoke at the races a month and a half before his death, at a show jumping for veterans [1] . He died on April 8, 1983. He was buried at the Armenian cemetery in Moscow [2] .
