Biography
Born into the family of a naval officer, captain of the Royal Navy of Great Britain John Hamilton, nephew of James Hamilton, 7th Earl of Abercorn.
He was educated at Harrow School and Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, where he met and made friends with William Pitt the Younger . This friendship determined the future career of D. D. Hamilton.
From 1783 to 1789 he was a member of the British Parliament from the Tory party. An active supporter of the activities of the government of William Pitt the Younger . Thanks to this and his political connections, October 15, 1790 became the 1st Marquis of Abercorn.
In 1794 - member of the Privy Council of Ireland. In 1805, the Marquis Abercorn became a knight of the Order of the Garter .
He died on January 27, 1818, his titles passed to his grandson James Hamilton .
