Biography
Yuri Bakanov was born on March 31, 1930 in Stavropol . He started boxing in Leningrad at the Children's Sports School of the Leningrad Palace of Pioneers named after A. A. Zhdanov (now the St. Petersburg City Palace of Youth Creativity ) under the guidance of the honored trainer of the USSR Ivan Pavlovich Osipov , later joined the Bolshevik voluntary sports society and trained with the honored USSR coach Alexander Nikolayevich Kudrin .
During the Great Patriotic War he remained in the city, survived the blockade . Subsequently, awarded the sign " Resident of the besieged Leningrad ."
As a boxer he played in the lightest weight category, he won the youth championships of Leningrad, in 1947, he won the championship of the central council of the Bolshevik DSO.
He graduated from the State Institute of Physical Culture named after P.F. Lesgaft and after completing his sports career he switched to coaching. In the period 1953-1956, he held the position of state trainer of the Turkmen SSR , then for three years he worked as a trainer and teacher at the Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute and the Leningrad Military Mechanical Institute . In 1959-1990, he taught at the Leningrad College of Physical Culture and Sports for more than twenty years.
Over the years of coaching, he prepared a number of talented athletes, including more than thirty of his students received the title of master of sports. One of his most famous students is master of sports Ivan Sobolev , bronze medalist of the European Championship, champion of the USSR, winner of tournaments of all-Union and international significance. Also, under his leadership, multiple champion of Leningrad Yuri Kozlov, well-known future coaches Oleg Kuzmin , Boris Khesin , Peter Sidorin , Vladimir Trufanov and others trained. For outstanding achievements in the coaching field in 1992, Yuri Bakanov was awarded the honorary title “ Honored Coach of the RSFSR ” [ 1] .
Repeatedly participated in boxing competitions as a judge. Since 1965 - judge of the All-Union category.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992, he founded the St. Petersburg Boxing Veterans Charity Fund and headed it for all subsequent years. In addition, he served as chairman of the St. Petersburg City Boxing Federation Veteran Commission.

He died on June 23, 2006 at the age of 76. He was buried in the South cemetery in St. Petersburg.
