In 1963, he took the position of Head of the Department of Water Problems of the Karelian Scientific Center with S. V. Grigoriev. From 1986 to 1991 headed the Presidium of the Karelian branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences .
Biography
Ivan Mikhailovich Nesterenko was born on January 2, 1930 in the village. Dyachenkova, Bogucharsky district, Voronezh region.
In 1936 he went to school. In 1939, his whole family moved to Moscow, and with the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, as a large child, he was sent to evacuation and returned to s. Dyachenkova, who then within 6 months becomes occupied territory.
In 1947 he graduated from high school in the city of Boguchar and entered the Hydrometeorological Department of the Voronezh Agricultural Institute, which he graduated with honors in 1952.
Then he was sent to work in the swamp science and land reclamation sector of the Karelian branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences as a senior laboratory assistant, then in 1955 he was transferred to the position of senior scientific associate.
While working at the Institute of Biology, he completed post-graduate studies in absentia, and in 1960 transferred to work at the Olonets Machine-Reclamation Station, where he worked as chief engineer.
In 1961, at the VNIIGiM, I. M. Nesterenko defended his dissertation on the topic “Drainage of the mineral wetlands of lake-glacial plains of the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic” and was awarded the degree of candidate of technical sciences.
Since August 1962, he began working at the Institute of Biology and. about. Head laboratories of swamp science and land reclamation, where he studied the methods of draining heavy mineral soils of lake-glacial plains of Karelia, paying attention to studying the influence of various reclamation measures in combination with the creation of a drainage network.
In connection with the reorganization of the Karelian branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the transfer to work in the department of hydrology and water management, I. M. Nesterenko from June 1, 1963, was assigned the obligations of the deputy head of the department of hydrology and water management.
From 1972 to 1975 led the Kostomuksha integrated expedition aimed at accounting and protecting natural resources during the construction of the Kostomuksha GOK .
Since March 1986, he served as chairman of the Presidium of the Karelian branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences , and in March 1988 he was elected chairman of the Presidium by the general meeting of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 2014, retired.
