Upper franconia

Upper Franconia ( German Oberfranken , Bav. Obafrankn ) - one of the seven administrative districts ( German Regierungsbezirk ) of the Bavarian state in Germany ; It is also one of the three parts of the historical region of Franconia, along with Lower and Middle Franconia ).

There are more than 200 breweries in the county that brew about 1,000 different types of beer. Therefore, it is believed that in Upper Franconia the highest density of breweries per capita in the world. Also, there is a special “beer route” ( German: Fränkische Brauereistraße ) through Franconia, which connects the brewery with all the settlements.

Geography

Upper Franconia is bordered by Thuringia in the north, in the west with Lower Franconia , in the south-west with Middle Franconia , in the south-east with Upper Palatinate , and in the east with Saxony and the Czech Republic .

History

The government district of Oberfranken ( Upper Franconia ) was formed in accordance with Article II of the “Highest Law” of the Kingdom of Bavaria on November 29, 1837 together with the government districts of Oberbayern , Niederbayern , Palatinate [10] with the administrative center in Speyer (now in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate ), Oberpfalz , Mittelfranken , Unterfranken and Schwaben . [11] [12]

In 1920, the territory of Upper Franconia was expanded by the accession of the former Duchy of Coburg to it as part of the Coburg district and the free cities of Coburg , Neustadt-by-Coburg and Rhodach-by-Coburg . [13]
