Botanical Description
An annual climbing plant with bare furrowed, multiply branching stems up to 3 m long. Leaves 2-8 cm long and 1-5 cm wide, with a heart-shaped or swept base, pointed at the apex, bare on both sides; edges usually wavy. Petioles 0.3-3 cm long, glabrous or rough. Sockets 1.5-3.5 mm long, filmy, brownish, falling, at the base with setae and bent hairs.
Inflorescences are loose sinus brushes consisting of flower bunches located in several tiers in the bosoms of the bracts. In the bosom of each bract, from 1-3 (in var. Pauciflora ) to 3-6 (in var. Dumetorum ) flowers. Pedicels 4-8 mm long. The flowers are bisexual, with a five-membered greenish or pinkish perianth . The outer three tepals are larger than the internal, with winged fruits. Stamens in number 8.
Fruits - shiny black triangular nuts 2-4 mm long, wrapped in tepals. The margins of the wings of the tepals are usually whole, rarely wavy-humorous, descend to the pedicle process at the base of the leaf.
Distribution
A plant widely distributed in Eurasia and North America. It is found in meadows, along forest edges, in river valleys, in fields.
Value
Weed plant. It causes harm to berry shrubs and young seedlings, braiding shoots and inhibiting their development.
