He studied under Friedrich Grützmacher at the Leipzig Conservatory . In 1866 - 1875 cellist of the Florentine quartet . After leaving the quartet, he taught for a year at the Vienna Conservatory and played in the Vienna Palace Opera Orchestra , during the same period he performed as part of the Helmesberger Quartet - in particular, participated in the premiere of Johannes Brahms Piano Quartet No. 3 Op.60 ( November 18, 1875 , part the piano was performed by the author) [1] . Then he moved to the Meiningen Palace Orchestra, with whom he toured a lot as a soloist, and finally, since 1884 he played in the Bavarian Royal Orchestra (while teaching at the Munich Conservatory ). November 3, 1890 participated in the premiere of two piano quartets by Antonin Dvořák Op.87 in Munich [2] .
