Wilgalm, Nikolai Fedorovich

Nikolai Fyodorovich Vilgalm ( Ukrainian Mikola Fedorovich Vіlgalm ; 1867 - 1935 ) - Russian and Soviet trainer in gymnastics, weightlifting, wrestling and fencing; popularizer of physical culture in Russia. He had a civil rank of collegiate assessor .

Biography

Born on January 13, 1867 in Kharkov [1] , Germanized Russified [2] .

He graduated from the Berlin Gymnastics Society, receiving a certificate of the right to teach gymnastics in the Odessa gymnastic school. Then he was an assistant to the class teachers of the Kharkov 1st Real School (1904–1911). At the same time he was a teacher of gymnastics, weightlifting and wrestling in the Kharkov gymnastics society and in the sports society "Sokol" (1893-1917), as well as in training courses for teachers of gymnastics for secondary schools of the Kharkov educational district (since 1912) and in Kharkov 1st male gymnasium (1914-1916 years). Since 1911, Nikolai Vilgalm worked at the Kharkov Institute of Technology (now the National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" ): first as an assistant inspector and caretaker of buildings (1919-1920), and then as head of the institute's physical development section (1921-1925). In 1913, he was a participant in the gathering of gymnasts of the Kharkov school district, in which Emperor Nicholas II awarded him the title of “Gymnasiarch of All Russia”. [2] In 1915, Wilgalm organized a weightlifting circle in Kharkov, in which he educated: N. Lukin [3] - the champion of Russia in 1903 in weightlifting and the silver medalist in 1913, the founder of the athletic circle in Mariupol in 1911; I. Kharchenko - the founder of the athletic circle in Sumy ; V. Solovyov - silver medalist of the championship of Russia in 1916, as well as wrestler I. Sedykh. [four]

In the 1920s, N.F. Vilgalm worked in the Latvian athletic club Darbs, where such famous athletes as W. Paul, L. Alex, A. Orleans , V. Bedunkevich , D. Elkoni , B. Shapiro, K. Benkis , F. Ostapov. [four]

He died in 1935 in Kharkov.
