Safyany ( Ukrainian Saf'yani ) - a flood lake in the Izmail district of Odessa region , in the lower Danube . The length of the lake is 6.5 km, width up to 1 km, depth up to 3.5 ... 4 m (at low water - up to 0.8-1 m.). The area of the lake varies from 250 to 420 ha . The basin is elongated. Water temperature in summer is up to +25 - +26 ° C, in winter the lake freezes.

Geography
The northern and western shores of the lake are elevated, steep in places, the eastern and southern shores are gentle, swampy.
Lake Safiany communicates with Lake Katlabuh via a small lake Lung and with the Danube through a lock channel. In the north, the Kairakliya River flows into the lake.
On the southwestern shore of the lake is the village of Safyany .
Flora and Fauna
Coastal-aquatic vegetation is widespread. Pike , common carp , perch , etc. are found among the fish. On the shores of the lake (especially in the southern part) there is a nesting place for waterfowl and resting birds of passage.
