Biography
Born on February 27 ( March 10 ), 1804 . The son of Baron Eustache (Gustav Georg) von Mengden and Catherine von Tiesenhausen. In 1820, after graduating from the Mitava Higher School [1] , he was identified as a junker in the 4th Estland Regiment ; since 1823 - ensign.
In 1843, he was appointed commander of the Kremenchug Jaeger Regiment ; confirmed in the post of regiment commander in 1845, along with the production of colonels . In December 1853 he was promoted to major general . In 1855 he was appointed commander of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Grenadier Division ; in 1859 - assistant to the head of the 6th Infantry Division .
In 1862, E. E. Mengden was appointed military commander of Plock , and the following year: military commander of the August Division, then - commander of the 3rd Grenadier Division and, ultimately, became available to the Commander-in-Chief of the troops in the Kingdom of Poland .
In 1870 he was promoted to lieutenant general . Died on May 2 ( 14 ), 1871 .
Family
Wife (from 10.04.1838) - Ekaterina Nikolaevna Muravyova (11.15.1818–09.03.1897), daughter of the fleet of captain Nikolai Alexandrovich Muravyov from his marriage to Alexandra Fedorovna Kozlova.
Baroness Mengden was a famous St. Petersburg beauty of the 1840s and one of her portraits was placed in the literary almanac "Morning Dawn" (1842). According to M. A. Patkul , “she had beautiful black eyes and beautiful features, she was a beautiful, kind woman, a patriot with a purely Russian soul” [2] . At the beginning of the 1860s, living with her husband in Warsaw, she was engaged in the “establishment in the province” of Orthodox churches and contributed to the creation of a Russian charity. She did not leave offspring.
