Biography

Vitaly Ostroverkhov was born on July 19, 1923 in Krasnodar , in the same year his family moved permanently to Moscow . He graduated from high school and factory school, after which he got a job at the factory " Red Proletarian ". He began to actively engage in boxing at the age of thirteen in 1936, was trained at the Spartak Moscow sports society.

In 1940, he won the championship of Moscow among juniors, but due to the outbreak of World War II he was soon forced to interrupt his sports career - in 1941 he volunteered to go to the front. He commanded a night reconnaissance company, participated in the battle of Stalingrad , where he was seriously wounded in the arm. He was awarded the orders of the Patriotic War I and II degrees (1985, 1946), medals " For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. "(1947)," Twenty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. "(1966)," Thirty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. "(1975)," Forty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. "(1980)," 50 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. After the war, despite the loss of his hands, he took up coaching and sports and social activities. For many years, he held the position of senior coach of the central council of the Spartak voluntary sports society, for many years headed the Moscow Boxing Federation, and was chairman of the All-Union Boxing Veterans Council.

As a coach, he prepared a number of titled athletes who have achieved success in the international arena. So, his ward was the honored master of sports Aleksey Kiselyov , silver medalist of the two summer Olympic Games, winner of the European Championship silver medal, two-time champion of the USSR, who later also became a successful coach. His other pupil, Yuri Gromov, is a bronze medalist at the European Championship, two-time champion of the USSR. Ostroverkhov’s students Anatoly Ershov and Eduard Borisov also became the country's boxing champions. He took part in the preparation of two-time Olympic champion Boris Lagutin . At different times, writer Julian Semenov , physicist Yuri Osipyan , actor and singer Vladimir Vysotsky trained with him. For outstanding achievements in the coaching field in 1965, Vitaliy Ostroverkhov was awarded the honorary title of Honored Coach of the USSR [2] [3] .

In 1991, he established the Association for the Promotion of Rehabilitation and Physical Education of Orphans and Children Left Without Parental Care. Member of the Presidium of DSO "Spartak", the first director of the Lyubertsy boxing school "Spartak". He was awarded the medal " In memory of the 800th anniversary of Moscow ", an honorary badge " For Merit in the Development of Physical Culture and Sports " (1990).

He died on May 7, 1995. Buried in Moscow.

Since 1995, the Russian Council of Spartak has held the traditional youth boxing tournament “Memorial to the Honored Trainer of the USSR Vitaly Ostroverkhov” [4] .
