Biography

Nikolai Agapov was born on October 24, 1930 in the village of Sivin, Krasnoslobodsky district of the Mordovian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic . In 1935, he moved to Ruzayevka with his family. He graduated from secondary school, then studied at the flight technical school of Saransk . During his studies, he was fond of kettlebell lifting , won prizes in local competitions, became the champion of Mordovia [1] . He graduated from the flight technical school with a degree in Electrical Equipment, worked in the laboratory of instrumentation at a locomotive depot [2] . At the same time, he began to professionally engage in weightlifting. He organized a weightlifting section in Ruzayevka. This section soon became the leading one in the republic. In the 1960s, Nikolai Agapov became a coach of the USSR youth weightlifting team [2] . For 30 years, he led the Ruzayev team of the Lokomotiv CA [1] .

Nikolai Agapov trained 55 masters of sports of the USSR and two masters of sports of international class. Among them are the world record holder in the clean and jerk Alexander Logutov , five-time USSR champion Yuri Filimonov, silver medalist of the USSR championship Vladimir Sazanov [2] .
