Biography
Valentina Timofeevna Fedko (nee Volkova) was born in 1913 in Kremenchug . In 1935 she entered the pediatric faculty of Kharkov Medical Institute . She graduated in 1940, after which she began working as a pediatrician in the Kremenchug children's hospital.
During the Second World War, Kremenchug was occupied by German troops, Valentina Timofeevna was evacuated to the city of Uralsk, West Kazakhstan region . In Uralsk, the doctor held the post of resident of a children's hospital.
Returning to Kremenchug in 1944, Fedko headed the Kremenchug children's consultation, combining this work with the post of doctor in the Children's Home. In 1949, Valentina Ivanovna was appointed director of the Kremenchug Medical School , and held this position until 1970.
In 1994, Fedko was awarded the knowledge of an honorary citizen of Kremenchug for his contribution to the organization of the city health system. Valentina Timofeevna also became the author of four books on the history of the cityβs medicine.
On January 31, 2006, Valentina Timofeevna died in her native Kremenchug.
Memory
In 2008, it was decided to install in the city of Kremenchug at house number 20 on Pushkin Boulevard , where Fedko lived for a long time, a memorial plaque dedicated to her. The opening of the board took place in 2009 [1] .
