The son of a violinist and violin master. According to legend, even at a young age he was noted as promising for the touring in Strasbourg Nicolo Paganini .
In 1840 he graduated from the Paris Conservatory , a student of Pierre Baillot ; during the training he played, since 1836 , in the orchestra of the Paris Opera . At the same time, he also performed as a soloist - in particular, Hector Berlioz's high praise for Simon Schwederle's performance of Viotti's violin concerto is known [1] .
In 1842 he returned to his hometown. In 1855 - 1867 held the post of accompanist in the newly created Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra , headed the leading urban string quartet and was generally one of the central figures in the musical life of the city [2] . In 1867, he returned to Paris for a while to educate his children.
Since 1855 (with a break), professor of the Strasbourg Conservatory , teacher of Emil Soray and Louis Ray .
