Origin
The representative of the family of Italian artists Quallo , in the XVII century, migrated from Lake Coma to Germany [1] .
Simon Quaglio grew up in a large family (11 children in total) of the artist and architect Giuseppe Quaglio . His older brothers are landscape painters and master of genre painting Lorenzo Quaglio , famous for the images of the peasantry in Upper Bavaria and Domenico Quaglio , one of the most famous German artists and architects of the Romantic era, a theater artist, lithographer and engraver .
Simon Quaglio studied the arts with his father Giuseppe and his brother Mikele Quaglio (1778-1815).
In 1814 he became an artist of the court theater in Munich. In the early years, he worked closely with his father, and after his death (1828), he assumed the duties of decorator of the Royal Munich Theaters.
Simon Kvalho was the first stage designer in Germany to use constructed scenery instead of a painted background (1839) to stage performances.
In 1840, he went to study in Paris to study the technology of creating spatial multi-layer scenery.
The artist created about 100 general projects, among other things, for Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute (1818), Tannhäuser (1855) and Lohengrin (1858) by Richard Wagner .
Simon Qualho also worked as a landscape designer , architectural painter and draftsman.
His sons were Angelo Quaglio ( Eng. Angelo Quaglio the Younger ; 1829-1890), a court theater painter who worked with Wagner , and Franz Quaglio (1844-1920), a genre painter.
Buried in the Old Southern Cemetery in Munich.
