Background
After the death of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Maeda Toshiye, the head of the council of elders, intended to govern the country until the age of Hideyori's heir, Tokugawa Ieyasu expelled the head of the board of governors Ishida Mitsunari from the government, transferred this post to Masite Nagamori and began preparations for war with another member of the government - Uesugi Kagekatsu . On the way to Aizu, the possession of Uesugi, Ieyasu left 1,800 people led by Torii Mototada in the Fushimi fortress he had captured a year ago. After his departure, Ishida Mitsunari introduces troops to the Osaka fortress and, together with many daimyo, including Mori Terumoto , Ukita Hideie , Otani Yoshitsugu , announces the deposition of Ieyasu. Torii Mototada, left in the fortress, does not react to this at all and drives out Shimazu Yoshihiro’s troops, who arrived to protect Fushimi. This incident forced Shimazu to go over to Mitsunari's side. After that, an ally of Isis Kinoshita Katsutoshi tries to force Mototada to surrender the fortress, but also unsuccessfully.

Consequences
The defenders of the fortress detained the main forces of the coalition for 13 days, during which Ieyasu was able to deploy part of his troops and return to the west. The coalition will be defeated at the Battle of Sekigahar , and Ishida Mitsunari will be executed.
