Content
Geography
Nandrong Navos Province occupies the southwestern and central parts of the island of Viti Levu , the largest island in the country. In addition, the province of Mamanuta Island, the island of Watulele and the reef Teva-i-Ra , located 450 km south-west of the main part of the country.
The province consists of 9 districts ( Vatulele , Malolo, Malomalo, Mbaravi, Navos, Nasingatoka, Ruvaileva, the city of Singatoka , Tuva [1] ) and 22 tikins.
History
In November 2014, there was an attempt to create “Christian states” in the provinces of Ra and Nandrong Navos [2] . More than 60 people were detained [3] , 16 participants in the separatist movement were put on trial [4] .
Population
According to the 2007 census, 58 387 people lived in the province [1] , of which 30 195 were men, 28 192 were women [5] .
The ethnic composition is dominated by the Fijians (35,075 people). 57.5% of the province's Fijians are Methodists , 8.1% are Catholics , 33.9% are followers of other Christian movements. The second largest people are Fiji Indians (22,140 people), of which 72.6% are Hindus , 18% are Muslims , 8.4% are Christians [1] .
Attractions
3 km west of the city of Singatok are the sand dunes of Singatok - one of Fiji's main archaeological and historical sites. In 1989, the dunes became Fiji's first national park [6] . In 1999, they were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List [7] .
On the island of Monuriki in 2000, the film “The Outcast ” by Robert Zemeckis was shot with Tom Hanks in the title role of Chuck Noland, the only survivor of the plane crash who was ashore and survived 1,500 days in complete isolation [8] .
The island of Vatulele is known for its petroglyphs dating back to 3000 years [9] .
Transport
The gates of the islands of Mamanuta and Yasawa - the port of Ndenarau on the private island of the same name .
There are several airports in the province: Malolo Lailai [10] , Mana [11] and Gastaway on the islands of the same name.
