Biography
Born July 3, 1933 in the castle of Zalem . The eldest son of Bertold, Margrave of Baden (1906-1963), and Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark (1906-1969). On the maternal side, he is the nephew of Philip, Duke of Edinburgh , and cousin of Charles, Prince of Wales [1] [2] .
He studied at the Zalemsky school . After training, he served as a reserve officer in the Bundeswehr . Currently - reserve colonel .
On October 27, 1963, after the death of his father Bertold, Maximilian became the head of the Baden Great Duke's House and the titular Grand Duke of Baden .
Maximilian is the owner of the Margrave Baden winery, which has been run by his eldest son, Crown Prince Bernhard of Baden since 1998 .
Marriage and children
On September 23, 1966, in Zalem ( Baden-Württemberg ) Maximilian married Archduke Valeria of Austria (born May 21, 1943 ), the seventh daughter of Archduke Hubert Salvator of Austria (1894-1971) and Princess Rosemary tzu Salm-Zalm (1904). The church wedding ceremony took place on September 30, 1966 in the castle of Perzenboig in Austria [3] [4] . The couple had four children:
- Princess Marie Louise Elizabeth Matilda Theodora Cecile Sarah Charlotte of Baden (born July 3, 1969, Zalem ), wife of Richard Dudley Baker (born March 30, 1936) on September 25, 1999 . They have one daughter:
- Sophia Baker (born March 1, 2001)
- Bernhard, Crown Prince of Baden (born May 27, 1970, Zalem ), married since June 22, 2001 to Stephanie Kaul (born 1967), they have three sons:

Being married to a Catholic, in accordance with the Act of Succession of 1701 , Margrave Maximilian of Baden was excluded from the succession of the British throne , before the entry into force of the Succession Act of 2013 in 2015, which restored the right to inherit the British throne, which were canceled due to accession married to Catholics.
