Martin Luther Memorial - a memorial built in honor of the initiator of the Reformation, Martin Luther, in Worms ( Rhineland-Palatinate , Germany ). Along with the Reformation Wall in Geneva, this memorial is considered the world's largest monument to Martin Luther. The sculptural composition was installed in the old city, on Luterplatz (Luterplatz) back in 1868 .

History
The main motive for the erection of the monument was 95 theses ( 1517 ) by Martin Luther, concerning repentance and indulgences, which he defended in the presence of the newly elected emperor Charles V in 1521 at a meeting of the Worms Reichstag .
Description
In addition to the large statue of Luther, decorated with bas-reliefs, portraits, medallions and inscriptions, there are 11 more figures of prominent figures and opponents of the official church. He is surrounded by: the defenders of Luther, elector of Saxony Frederick III the Wise (to the left of Luther), Philip the Magnanimous, the Landgrave of Hesse (to the right), Franzu von Sikkingen , leader of the Knight's Rebellion in defense of the Reformation , the knight Ulrich von Gutten , one of the main authors of “ Letters of Dark People ” . as well as prominent representatives of the Reformation and opponents of the official church: the founder of the Waldensian religious movement, the Frenchman Peter Waldo , the Englishman John Wycliffe , the founder of the teachings of the Wycliffists, who later turned into the popular Lollard movement, the reformer and predecessor of Protestantism , the ideologist of the Czech Reformation Jan Hus and the Italian reformer Girolamo S as well as Luther’s associates Johann Reichlin and Philip Melanchthon .
Female figures on the monument symbolize the Protestant cities - Speyer , Augsburg and Magdeburg .
