Name Origin
The name of the river is of Baltic origin, - lit. pelkis (pelke) means - peat, a puddle . On Polish maps (until 1939), the Pella River was referred to as Ropka [2] (swamp) .
Description
It starts in a swamp in the forest between dd. Galinovo and Osovets , northeast of the agro-town Kurenets . It flows into Vilya below the spillway of the Vileika reservoir on the southern outskirts of the city of Vileika . In the upper and middle reaches, the river is canalized; in the lower reaches, a natural slightly sinuous channel is preserved. The water level is regulated by a lock equipped near the village of Ivontsevichi . The river crosses the highway R29 Ushachi - Dokshitsy - Vileyka and the railway line Polotsk - Vileyka - Molodechno.
