After the death of L.G. Ramensky, his student Ivan Afanasyevich Tsatsenkin, having simplified the methodology, completed work on compiling ecological scales for hayfields and pastures in the European part of the former USSR. Based on the use of a huge number (up to 20 thousand) of descriptions of vegetation, ecological scales were compiled, in which more than 1,500 species of plants were characterized in relation to moisture, soil richness, and for some species, in addition to moisture variability, sedimentation level and grazing . The ecological characteristics of the species were expressed in the amplitudes of the levels of moisture, soil wealth, etc., at which they are found in the corresponding gradations of their participation in phytocenoses (according to the projective cover). Using these scales, it was possible according to any correctly compiled geobotanical description to determine conditional moisture, soil richness, etc. <...> I. A. Tsatsenkin with his students created ecological scales for other regions of the USSR (Caucasus, Central Asia, Altai, Siberia, Far East, Pamir), as well as for the Carpathians and the Balkans.
