Grigory Zabudsky was born on July 21, 1854. Pupil of the Nizhny Novgorod Count Arakcheev military gymnasium and Mikhailovsky Artillery School , which he graduated in 1874. After graduating from the Mikhailov Artillery Academy in 1879, he remained a tutor with her, and in 1882 he took the post of teacher of chemistry and technology to defend a dissertation on the topics: β On carbohydrates formed by the combined carbon of cast iron, and on the method for determining this carbon in cast iron, steel and iron βandβ On the preparation of coarse gunpowder for long-range artillery at Russian powder plants β [1] .
In 1888-1894 Grigory Alexandrovich Zabudsky taught the metallurgy course at the Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy , and since 1890, in addition, undercuts and explosives , having received the title of Ordinary Professor in 1893 [1] [2] .
At the end of the training service at the Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy in 1909, Zabudsky was expelled to the disposal of the Minister of War, leaving him an advisory member of the Artillery Committee , which he had been in since 1891 [1] .
The scientific works of Zabudsky, as a chemical technologist, cover not only the field of undercuts and explosives , but also to a large extent such important branches of artillery technology as metallurgy and metal science, in connection with questions of the manufacture of artillery guns and shells, armor, cartridges, etc. n [1] .
Since 1879 he was an assistant manager, and since 1891 the head of the chemical laboratory of the Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy. Repeatedly traveled abroad and to large Russian industrial areas, where he carefully got acquainted with all the latest achievements of science, contributing to this development of many issues of artillery technology in the Russian Empire [1] .
It should be noted that Zabudskyβs activities in the artillery com- mission coincided with the era of rearmament of the army with small-caliber weapons, the introduction of smokeless gunpowder, the development of explosive explosives for shells; Zabudsky took an active part in the development of all these questions. At the beginning of the second decade of the 20th century, Zabudsky became chairman of the commission for the extraction of nitric acid from atmospheric nitrogen and for the extraction of aluminum .
He was also instructed to organize a central scientific and technical laboratory of the military department, which was created according to his project in 1914 in Petrograd; he became her first leader. Later, the Leningrad Institute of Metals was created on the basis of this laboratory [3] .
