Biography

Vladimir Konkov was born July 14 (27), 1911 in Moscow in the family of a revolutionary worker. He spent his childhood in Nizhny Novgorod , where at a young age he worked as a loader in a port. While studying at school he became interested in boxing, won at city level competitions.

He graduated from the road college. Since 1934 he served in the Red Army , was in the NKVD escort troops in Gorky. In the army he continued to participate in various boxing tournaments.

After demobilization, he entered the State Central Institute of Physical Culture , where he became the ward of the outstanding boxer and teacher Konstantin Vasilyevich Gradopolov . During his studies, he was friends with the future Hero of the Soviet Union Boris Galushkin .

Even at the institute, Konkov began to carry out coaching activities, trained beginner boxer-schoolchildren, organized children's boxing tournaments.

When the Great Patriotic War began , he was enlisted in the Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade for Special Purpose of the NKVD of the USSR , participated in the battle for Moscow , and then carried out sabotage operations in the Smolensk Region for two years. The end of the war met in the hospital for the wounded in Rostock . He was awarded the medals " For Military Merit ", " For the Defense of Moscow ", " For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. ", Order of the Patriotic War II degree.

In 1946, he was discharged and returned to Moscow, fully devoting himself to coaching. He began his coaching career in the children's sports school of the Leningrad Region, and since 1948 he taught for many years at the Moscow Art and Industry School (now the S.G. Stroganov Moscow Art and Industry Academy ), held the position of head and assistant professor at the Department of Physical Culture. At the same time, he worked as a trainer in the boxing section of the chemist voluntary sports society.

Over the years of coaching, he prepared a galaxy of titled boxers who have achieved success in the international arena, 11 masters of sports. One of his most famous pupils is Viktor Ageev , honored foreman from the port, two-time European champion, four-time USSR champion, who in the future made a successful career as a coach and sports functionary. Also, over the years, such famous boxers as V. Nefedov, V. Chernov, V. Kataev, A. Burlakov and others were Konkova’s students. For outstanding achievements in the coaching career in 1965, Vladimir Konkov was awarded the honorary title “ Honored Coach of the USSR ”. Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of the USSR [1] .

Repeatedly participated in boxing competitions as a judge, in particular, served boxing fights at the Summer Olympic Games in Rome . Judge of the international category AIBA (1957).

In 2001 he was awarded the badge of honor " For Merits in the Development of Physical Culture and Sports ".

He died on January 15, 2005 at the age of 93. He was buried at the Kuntsevsky cemetery in Moscow [2] [3] [4] .
