Ochaul ( Ocheul ) is a lake in the Kachug district of the Irkutsk region . The mirror of the lake is located at an altitude of 644 m above sea level [2] .

Geographical position
The lake is located on the Malaya Anga River , 48.2 kilometers northeast of the regional center - the village of Kachug . It has an oval shape, elongated in the latitudinal direction, in its water area there are six islands. The southwestern shore of the lake is swampy, the rest is covered with larch-spruce taiga [2] .
Localities around Lake
The nearest settlement to the lake is Bolshoi Oolong . It is located about 3 kilometers from the shore of the lake. Earlier, 1.4 km north-east of the lake was the village of Ochaul , a little further - about 7 kilometers - the village of Yukhta [3] .
Toponymy
According to the local historian G.M. Butakova, the name of the lake may come from the name of the Turkic - Samoyedic kind of och . According to his assumption, this, as well as a number of other sealed Samoyed and Yenisei peoples began to settle in this region in the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Manchus captured China and declared the peoples of the Sayan-Altai region their tributaries [4] .

The area of the lake is 2.6 km², the catchment area is 169 km². The lake has a rather large depth.

A number of springs flow into Ochaul. The lake is sewage, the Malaya Anga River flows from it.

According to the state water register of Russia, the lake belongs to the Lena Basin District , the water sector - Lena from the source to the city of Ust-Kut . The river basin is Lena [5] .

Flora and Fauna
Ducks nest along the shores of the lake, the muskrat is found [6] .
The ichthyofauna includes the following fish species: crucian carp , perch , roach , pike . Attempts were made to stock the lake with carp , but they were unsuccessful [6] .
Economic Use
In 1941, the Rybkoop organization (located in the village of Kachug) built a fish processing plant on the northern shore of the lake. Two 2-apartment buildings, 2 sheds, a barn and a cellar were erected. The company ceased to exist in 1946 . In the 1980s, holiday homes were built around the lake, but over time they became desolate [6] .
Ecology
In 1990, a project was developed to clean the lake from sapropel lying on its bottom, for which a pit was dug. However, the project was never implemented [6] .
