James Gabriel Keogh ( born James Gabriel Keogh ; born December 1, 1987 , Melbourne , Victoria , Australia ) [2] [3] , better known by the stage name Vance Joy, is an Australian singer and songwriter . In 2015, he won the ARIA Music Awards in the category “Best Musician” [4] .

Biography and career
Prior to his musical career, Vance was a promising player in Australian football . In 2008 and 2009, he played for the Coburg Football Club in the Victorian Football League [5] and won the award as the best player in his first year of participation [6] . He began his musical career in the late 2000s, at which time he was finishing his law degree . He took his stage name from the character of the novel "Bliss" of the Australian writer Peter Carey , in order to further separate his personal and professional life [7] .
On January 21, 2013 he released his debut single, “From Afar”, and on March 22, 2013, the debut mini-album God Loves You When You're Dancing [8] . The single “Riptide” from this album was recognized as the most popular on the Australian Triple J radio in 2013 [9] , and also reached sixth place in the ARIA charts and was certified triple platinum status by the Australian Recording Association [10] [11] . The song also went platinum in the UK [12] , Sweden [13] , Canada [14] and the USA [15] .
Vance Joy’s debut studio album, Dream Your Life Away, was released on September 5, 2014. [16] This album went platinum in Australia [17] , Canada [18] and the USA [19] . The single “Mess Is Mine” from this album, released in July 2014, has also been certified platinum in the US [20] and Australia [17] .
The second album, entitled "Nation Of Two", was announced with the release of the single " Like Gold " on November 2, 2017. Its release is scheduled for February 2018 [21] .
