2013 Junior Curling World Championship

The 2013 World Junior Curling Championships 2013 was held from February 28 to March 10, 2013 in Sochi ( Russia ) at the arena of the Ice Cube curling center for both male and female teams [1] .

The championship was attended by 10 male and 10 female teams.

In the men's tournament, the Scottish team became the champion (9th time in its history), having won the Russian team in the final. The bronze medal was won by the national team of Canada, who won the match for the 3rd place in the national team of Sweden.

In the women's tournament champions became (the 2nd time in their history) the Russian team, who won the Scottish team in the final. The bronze medal was won by the Japanese team, who won the Czech national team in the match for 3rd place.

Content

Competition Format

At the first, group stage, 10 teams play among themselves in a circular system in one circle. The team that took the last place is sent to the pre-qualification tournament next year. The four best teams of the group stage go to the second stage, playoffs , where they play according to the Page system : the two best teams according to the results of the group round hold a match for a direct hit in the finals (playoffs-1). The 3rd and 4th teams play for reaching the semifinals (playoffs-2). In the semifinals, there is a loser in the first match and a winner in the second. In the finals, gold awards are disputed by the winners of the playoffs and semifinals. Bronze medals have been played (since 2010) by losers in the semifinals and in the playoffs-2.
