Content

History

The settlement, from which the city later grew, was founded in 1842 . The municipality of Pinillos was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1848 . Originally the city was called Las Playas de Pueblo Nuevo . In 1846, the city got its modern name, associated with the name of the Spanish philanthropist Pedro Martínez de Pinillos ( Pedro Martínez de Pinillos ).

The city is located in the central part of the department, on the right bank of the Magdalena River , north of the confluence of the Cauca River , approximately 194 kilometers southeast of the city of Cartagena , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 19 meters above sea ​​level [1] .
The municipality of Pinillos borders in the northwest with the territory of the municipality of Santa Cruz de Mompos , in the northeast with the municipalities of San Fernando , Atillo de Loba (western part) and Margarita , in the east with the municipalities of Altos del Rosario and Barranco de Loba , in the south - with the municipality of Tikisio , in the west - with the municipalities of Achi and Maganga . The area of ​​the municipality is 723 km² [2] .

Population

According to the 2005 census, men made up 54.1% of the Pinillos population, women - 45.9% respectively. In racial terms, whites and mestizos accounted for 85.5% of the population of the city; blacks , mulattoes and Raisals - 14.5% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 77.8%.

Economics

The basis of the economy of Pinillos is cattle breeding .
73.4% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 12.4% are service enterprises, 11.9% are industrial enterprises, 2.3% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
