It is a place of compact Saami living (90% of the residents living in the village are Skolts , there is also Inari Saami ).
The settlement was developed in 1949 in connection with the resettlement of 51 people from the Pechenga District who retired as a result of the Second World War to the Soviet Union. At the same time, a school, a medical center and an Orthodox chapel were built (1951). In the late 1960s, the first road was built in these places.
A number of Sami buildings were transported to the village from Kirakkajärvi (Kirakkajärvi) and are currently used as museum objects to showcase the traditions and everyday life of the Scolts .
The village has an Orthodox church of St. Trifon of Pechenga , built in 1992 according to the design of the architect Ole Gottleben. Near the temple is located the Orthodox cemetery [1] .
