Indications for use

Ciclopirox is indicated for the treatment of lichen and seborrheic dermatitis . It is necessary to avoid contact with the eyes and the reproductive organs, during pregnancy, you need to consult a doctor, since it is not known whether cyclopirox passes into breast milk. May cause a burning sensation on first use (Paddock Laboratories, Inc., Oct. 2009).

Mechanism of Action

Unlike azoles and other antifungal drugs, the mechanism of action of cyclopirox is poorly understood [2] . It is currently being investigated as an alternative ketoconazole treatment for seborrheic dermatitis because it inhibits the growth of Malassezia furfur yeast. Initial results show efficacy comparable to ketoconazole, with a subjectively more noticeable symptom relief due to anti-inflammatory action [3] .

Effectiveness in the treatment of nail infections

In addition to other drugs, cyclopirox is used in varnishes for topical treatment of onychomycosis (fungal infections of the nails). A meta-analysis of six infection tests available in 2009 concluded that topical cyclopiroxolamine has low cure rates and that amorolfine may be significantly more effective, but more research is needed.

The combination of data from 2 studies of cyclopiroxamine and placebo showed that in the treatment with cyclosporoxamines, the level of 61% and 64% in patients with syncopyroxolamine was 61% and 64%. Long treatment times (48 weeks) make cyclopiroxolamine a poor choice for nail infections. When using amorolfine varnish, 6% of treatment failure cases were detected after 1 month of treatment, but these data were collected on a very small sample of people, and these high success rates may be unreliable.
